Installed to prevent sediment from leaving a construction area, silt fence is a 3’ foot tall temporary erosion control barrier placed around specific areas where soil disturbance may lead to runoff. Silt fence works to slow runoff while allowing water to flow through, effectively filtering sediment and keeping it on site.

Silt fence comes in a variety of types including heavy duty, regular, machine sliced and floating. Silt fence is either black, orange, red or yellow and should be installed in accordance with city, county and state specifications. 

CSC is able to install all types and colors of silt fence. All silt fence is machine sliced or trenched into the ground 8 to 12 inches, leaving 2’ feet of fabric above ground and is secured with 2’ x 2’ wood or steel posts and fastened with 8” inch lathe to guard it against weather conditions. 

Other erosion control methods are often used in conjunction with or in lieu of silt fence, including bio-logs, bale checks, safety fence, and tree protection fence.

Installed to protect trees and safeguard their critical root systems, tree preservation or ‘safety fence’ is a 4’ foot tall heavy duty barrier with 90% visibility, secured to steel posts. 

Safety fence is specifically situated around the drip line of a tree and is usually installed in conjunction with silt fence, fiber rolls and other erosion control measures that may be required before site work can begin.

Sometimes you just need to go with the flow. That’s why CSC installs road drain curb and gutters by Wimco. 

In our experience, the two overflows and ample filtration area allow construction to continue unimpeded even in heavy rainfall. They also minimize vehicle hazards by preventing storm water and debris from building up in the roadway and work to keep excess concrete out of the manhole structure while curb is formed around the casting. 

With broad Wimco experience, CSC can maintain the system after installation by Vac’ing out the system as needed, upon request. 

Designed to manage storm water runoff at construction sites and provide sediment control, fiber rolls control erosion and complement permanent best-management practices for source control and re-vegetation. Filled with straw, flax, rice, coconut fiber, or composted material, each fiber roll is wrapped with UV-degradable polypropylene netting for longevity or biodegradable materials like burlap, jute, or coir. 

When installed in combination with straw mulch, erosion control blankets, hydraulic mulches, or bounded fiber matrices for slope stabilization, fiber rolls reduce the effects of long or steep slopes. Fiber rolls work to slow, filter, and spread overland flows, preventing erosion and minimizing gully development. They also reduce sediment loads to receiving waters by filtering runoff and capturing sediment. 

Silt curtains are designed to contain silt, sediment and turbidity during activities like construction, dredging, bridge repair and piling driving. 

CSC’s standard practice is to install all floating silt control curtains with a top flotation device, bottom chain, and impermeable skirt. Because site conditions vary greatly, we may add options including tension cables for increased strength, permeable bottom skirts and increased fabric weight. 

Flotation silt curtains come in a variety of options based on whether the body of water is calm, or features moving water, tides or waves. With so many options, it’s important work with a company that knows how to evaluate your specific needs and get it right the first time.
